Robert P. Hoag is a patent litigator and prosecutor. He specializes in patent and intellectual property law, with an emphasis on biochemical and chemical arts. He has over five years of experience in a varied range of commercial, intellectual property and insurance defense litigation, including business and employment discrimination suits, environmental and Superfund litigation, product liability litigation, and international patent prosecution opposition litigation. His practice also includes patent prosecution, licensing agreements, infringement and validity analysis as well as trademark copyright litigation.
Mr. Hoag has handled litigation in the Federal Courts of New Jersey as well and the State Courts of New Jersey and Massachusetts. His client representation has been broad based. His style focuses solely on the results desired by the client, without necessarily initiating litigation.
Mr. Hoag received his Master's Degree in Biology from Boston University in 1988 and his undergraduate degree in Biology from Holy Cross. He received his JD with honors from the George Washington University Law School in 1992, where he was also an Assistant Editor of the Commercial Protection Reporting Service and Vice-Justice of the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity. Mr. Hoag clerked for Judge Francis X. Nee, and Administration Law Judge in the state of Massachusetts.
Mr. Hoag has a highly technical background in the biological and biochemical fields, with expertise in such technologies as genetics, enzyme immunoassay diagnostic test, and viral immunology detection. He has also taught Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry from the high school to college graduate levels. As a technical scientist, Mr. Hoag has performed research involving the detection of hepatitis, the HIV virus, and other retroviruses in the donor blood supply of Massachusetts and Main for the American Red Cross.
Mr. Hoag is a member of the State Bar of Massachusetts, the State Bar of New Jersey, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, the American Bar Association (litigation and intellectual property law sections), the New Jersey Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
